Cane River Boys Win Regular Season and Tournament Hoop Titles
The Cane River Middle School boy’s basketball team completed a great season on the hardwood recently. The Rebels (13-1) won both the regular season and tournament championships this season, something that the Cane River boys haven’t done in over ten seasons.
The Rebels combined a suffocating defense with an offense that averaged 55 points per game this year. In the Toe River Conference Tournament the Rebels defeated Bowman 33-21 in the semifinal round setting up a showdown with Avery Middle in the tournament championship game at Cranberry Middle School.
In a true team effort in the title contest, Cane River left little doubt who had the best team on the Tri-County basketball courts this season when they walked over the AMS Panthers 54-28 to capture the tourney title.
The Rebels dominated the Toe River All-Conference and All Tournament teams with six selections which included Issac Allen, Brennan Hockaday and Bryson Cooper (All-Conference) and Colton Garland, Nick Chandler and Luke Antinori (All-Tournament).
Rebel Coach Jeff Fender thanked all of his players, parents, facility and staff for all of the support this season as well as the Rebel Athletic Association for helping make this a championship season to remember.
